Andrew Tate Accused of Rape and Human Trafficking
According to several reliable media outlets and agencies such as the BBC, The Guardian, and Reuters, the controversial online influencer Andrew Tate was detained in Romania for a human trafficking and rape investigation.
A police spokesperson confirmed the arrest to the BBC.
Reuters also confirmed that the Tate brothers had been arrested. Romanian prosecutors asked to extend the detention of Andrew Tate by 30 days.
According to Reuters, prosecutors said that the Tate brothers had been under criminal investigation since April.
"The four suspects ... appear to have created an organised crime group with the purpose of recruiting, housing and exploiting women by forcing them to create pornographic content meant to be seen on specialised websites for a cost," prosecutors said in a statement according to Reuters.
Who Is Andrew Tate?
Emory Andrew Tate is a social media influencer and former kickboxer.
Tate founded Hustlerβs University, an online academy where members pay a monthly subscription fee to get advice on how to make passive income online. He became notorious online for misogynistic and anti-climate statements.
Days before his arrest, Tate tagged the environmental activist Greta Thunberg in a post boasting about the "enormous emissions" produced by his cars.
