Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be misleading. The video dates back to 2017 and was taken in Indonesia, not China.

Misbar’s team found that the viral video had been misleadingly miscaptioned before in 2019.
According to AFP Fact Check, the video was taken in Indonesia and was shared on social media back in May 2017.
An article published by the Tribun Jateng newspaper published on May 24, 2017, had shared the video with a headline that reads: “The facts behind the beating of a pickpocket by an Indonesian military officer.”
