Social media users and media outlets circulated two photos purporting to show the aftermath of a plane crash that occurred on January 15.

Misbar investigated the circulating photos and found the claim to be misleading.

After conducting a thorough reverse image search, Misbar’s team found the photos making the rounds to be outdated and unrelated to the recent plane crash in Nepal.

The first viral photo shows a Nepalese police officer standing in front of the wreckage of a Dornier aircraft.

The photo’s caption stated that the plane was owned by private firm Sita Air.

The photographer Navesh Chitrakar captured the photo for Reuters on September 28, 2012.

2019 Plane Crash in Nepal

The second circulating photo shows a small passenger plane hitting two parked helicopters at Lukla airport in Nepal’s Everest region.

The incident happened after the plane veered off the runway while taking off.
