The Video of Crow Flocks Was Not Recently Filmed in Kyiv

Misbar investigated the claim and found it to be misleading. The video is outdated and does not depict a wave of crows in Kyiv, Ukraine.

The Video of Crows is Older Than Claimed 

The video was first shared on YouTube Shorts in 2017 with captions purporting that it was shot in Houston, Texas. 

“Tens of thousands of black birds soared through the city of Houston. With a dark gray sky, it was an eerie sight on this freeway,” the YoutTube description reads.

According to the Daily Mail, the video was captured by a driver along a freeway in Houston and shows a “creepy sight as the birds soared through a dark gray sky.”

“In the video, the birds appeared to be flying in a snake-like formation as they swarmed over cars entering and leaving the city,” the Daily Mail wrote.

A year later, on March 8, 2018, the Daily Mail reported the video on YouTube and did not mark the footage as old.

A Viral Video of Crows Flying Over Kyiv

As the video in question went viral, another video depicting a flock of birds flying over a residential area was also widely shared online. 

“There are huge flocks of crows over Kyiv. Locals write in social networks that they have never seen such huge flocks - ‘harbingers of trouble,’” a Twitter user wrote.

Scanning the text on this video led Misbar’s team to a Telegram channel under the name “РеальньІЙ Киев” which means “Real Kyiv.” The Telegram channel, with over 800K subscribers, describes itself as Kyiv's largest news channel.

The channel posted the video this month with a caption in Ukrainian language reading: “Readers noticed a huge flock of birds in Pechersk, which have been flying in circles for a very long time.” However, our team could not verify the reliability of this source and the accuracy of the information.
