Social media users and pages have recently circulated a picture of a herd of goats making its way through the snow. The posts claimed the image was taken in the Moroccan city of Taza.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the claim and found it to be misleading. The image was not recently taken in Morocco.
Using Image Reverse Search tools, Misbar’s team discovered that the image was posted to Turkish Instagram profiles back in January 2021. According to the posts, the picture was taken in the Turkish city of Bingöl.
Cold Spell Hitting Morocco
Several Moroccan cities are witnessing a cold snap that started on January 23, 2023. Earlier, Morocco’s weather office issued a memo warning citizens of a likely cold snap across several regions from Monday to Wednesday.
Temperatures are expected to drop to between -06 and 04 degrees celsius in several regions of the Kingdom, according to the memo from the Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM).
As included in the memo, the orange-level alert indicated that many cities were set to see a drop in temperatures, including Taza city.
