Outdated Photos Shared in Relation to the Recent Bombing in Pakistan
Contrary to viral claims, the photos feature the aftermath of a suicide bombing at a Shi'ite mosque in Pakistan on March 4, 2022.
The first viral photo, which shows a general view of the prayer hall after the bomb blast, was captured by Fayaz Aziz for Reuters.
Reuters published the photo in an article about the incident at the time.
The second circulating photo shows people standing amid the wreckage at the prayer hall after a bomb blast inside the mosque.
The photo was taken by Fayaz Aziz for Reuters and was uploaded to the Alamy website on March 4, 2022.
The third photo making the rounds also dates back to the March 4, 2022 bomb blast in Pakistan.
The photo was published in a Russian website’s article about the incident.
2022 Suicide Bombing at a Shi'ite Mosque in Pakistan
On March 4, 2022, a suicide bombing took place during Friday prayers at a Shi'ite mosque in Peshawar, Pakistan.
According to hospital officials, at least 58 people were killed and almost 200 were injured in the suicide bombing.
In a statement, the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the bombing, making it one of the largest attacks carried out within Pakistan.
2023 Suicide Attack at a Pakistani Mosque
At least 100 people have died as a result of a suicide bombing that tore through a mosque in Peshawar, Pakistan.
According to Muhammad Asim Khan, a spokesperson for Lady Reading Hospital in the city, a mosque in a police compound was bombed, killing at least 100 people.
Inspector General of Peshawar Police Moazim Jah Ansari said that the police suspect 12 kilograms of explosives were used by the suicide bomber. The bombing left 217 people injured.
