Social media users recently shared a screenshot that purportedly shows a statement tweeted by the Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert.
According to the claim, the congresswoman said: “Simply because you took part in a well-intentioned coup *one time* doesn’t mean you should be called a traitor years after. What has happened to this country?”

Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be satirical. The screenshot also includes a disclaimer that clarifies the satirical nature of the quote.
The fake tweet originated from the Twitter account @FaithRubPol, whose bio reads: “Trying to understand this crazy world & get a few laughs. Most of our images are satire.”
“Parody by Back Rub” has published several similar quotes that ended up confusing people.
