During the recent earthquake that hit Turkey, Syria, and other nearby countries, social media users circulated a video purporting to show a building collapsing after the earthquake struck Turkey.

After conducting a thorough reverse image search, Misbar’s team found the video making the rounds to be outdated and unrelated to the recent earthquake in Turkey.

2020 İzmir Earthquake Video Recirculated 

The Guardian's YouTube channel posted the same video titled "Turkey earthquake footage captures moment building collapses in İzmir" on October 30, 2020.

According to the video’s description, the footage was filmed during the earthquake that hit İzmir in October 2020.

ReliefWeb reported that on October 30, 2020, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 struck İzmir in western Turkey.

The earthquake caused significant structural and infrastructure damage to the city's Bornova and Bayrakl neighborhoods.

At least 17 buildings have reportedly collapsed, and many others have sustained damage.

799 people were injured, and 21 individuals were killed as a result of the earthquake, according to the Turkish Interior Ministry.

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 ripped through Turkey and Syria, leaving devastation and wreckage on both sides of the border.

The earthquake is considered to be one of the area's most powerful earthquakes in a century.

According to Turkish authorities, 3,419 people have died as a result of the earthquakes that were centered in southeast Turkey, raising the total death toll—including those in northern Syria—to more than 5,000.
