After conducting a thorough reverse image search, Misbarโ€™s team found the video making the rounds to be old and unrelated to the recent earthquake in Turkey.

Jamie Little, a reporter for Fox, published the same video on January 7, 2023.

According to the videoโ€™s caption, the footage was filmed in San Diegoโ€™s Mission Beach during the storm that hit the city at the time.

As the videoโ€™s description suggested, the video was taken on Mission Beach in San Diego.

Storms Hit California in 2023

On January 10, The Guardian reported that since the storms started, there have been at least 17 fatalities in California. 

The storms have brought torrential rain and wind that have flooded rivers, downed trees and power lines, and forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of people.

2023 Turkey-Syria Earthquake

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 struck both Turkey and Syria, causing devastation on both sides of the border.

The earthquake on Monday killed 8,754 people, according to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan.

When the 2,470 confirmed fatalities in Syria are included, the official death toll currently rises to 11,224.

According to the World Health Organization, the total death toll could eventually surpass 20,000.

The quake is regarded as one of the strongest to hit the region in the past century.

A similar-sized earthquake in the area in 1999 claimed at least 17,000 lives.
