Misbar investigated the video and found the claim to be misleading.
After conducting a thorough reverse image search, Misbarโs team found the video making the rounds to be old and unrelated to the recent earthquake in Turkey.
A Video from San Diego Shared as a Recent Tsunami in Turkey
Jamie Little, a reporter for Fox, published the same video on January 7, 2023.
According to the videoโs caption, the footage was filmed in San Diegoโs Mission Beach during the storm that hit the city at the time.
On January 11, 2023, the same video was also uploaded to a YouTube channel.
As the videoโs description suggested, the video was taken on Mission Beach in San Diego.
Storms Hit California in 2023
On January 10, The Guardian reported that since the storms started, there have been at least 17 fatalities in California.
The storms have brought torrential rain and wind that have flooded rivers, downed trees and power lines, and forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of people.
2023 Turkey-Syria Earthquake
A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 struck both Turkey and Syria, causing devastation on both sides of the border.
The earthquake on Monday killed 8,754 people, according to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan.
