Following the major earthquake that struck Turkey, Syria, and other nearby countries, social media users circulated a video purporting to show India’s National Disaster Response Force team landing in Turkey to aid the city.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading.
After conducting a thorough reverse image search, Misbar’s team found the video making the rounds to be outdated and unrelated to Turkey.
An Old Video Shows NDRF’s Team Training
On July 8, 2021, the same video was published by a YouTube channel called "Sweet world."
According to the short video’s description, the video shows India’s National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team training.
India Sent Humanitarian Supplies to Turkey
In response to the severe earthquake and many aftershocks, India deployed humanitarian supplies, a mobile hospital, and specialized search and rescue teams in two C-17 Globemaster military transport planes.
The first batch of earthquake relief supplies, along with NDRF Search and Rescue Teams, specially trained dog squads, medical supplies, drilling machines, and other essential equipment, left for Turkey, according to Arindam Bagchi, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs.
Countries from all over the world have offered assistance to both Syria and Turkey in their rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
2022 Turkey-Syria Earthquake
The number of fatalities from the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria has surpassed 22,000 following a 7.8-magnitude quake that struck both countries.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Turkey, announced that at least 18,991 individuals have been killed there, surpassing the death toll from the devastating earthquake that struck the country in 1999.
There have reportedly been at least 3,377 fatalities in Syria.
Turkey will receive $1.78 billion in relief and recovery funding from the World Bank.
The world community is being urged by UN chief Antonio Guterres to contribute more funds for earthquake assistance.
