Misinformation about UFOs

Unidentified Flying Objects, or UFOs, have been a subject of a great deal of misinformation and sensationalism. Mainly, people tend to link any identified flying object or unknown aerial   phenomenon with extra-terrestrial explanations.

Reports of UFO sightings have been sensationalized since the 1940s and 50s. This was partly due to the Cold War and the rise of science fiction in popular culture. Many people reported sightings of flying saucers and other strange phenomena in the 1950s. The most famous and controversial of these incidents is the 1947 Roswell Incident.

The Roswell Incident

The most famous and controversial UFO sighting is the Roswell Incident, which occurred in New Mexico in June or July of 1947. According to reports, an unidentified flying object crashed in the area, leading the U.S. military to issue a press release claiming they had recovered a "flying disc." However, they later retracted their statement, stating that the object was a weather balloon.

Calls for Transparency Grow as Unidentified Objects Are Shot Down Over North America

Top officials from the Department of Defense (DOD), Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) briefed senators on three unidentified flying objects (UFO) that were recently shot down over North America. The classified briefing left lawmakers with more questions than answers and has resulted in demands from both Republicans and Democrats for more transparency from the Biden administration.

The lack of transparency has caused concern for many lawmakers. The briefing left them with many unanswered questions regarding the unidentified objects, including their country of origin and the extent of their capabilities. Despite the military shooting down the objects, no debris has been found, and search efforts are still ongoing. Senator John Kennedy, noted that those types of flying objects have been "flying over us for years" with U.S. government knowledge.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the unidentified objects, lawmakers are calling for more transparency from the Biden administration to keep the public informed and to prevent any possible catastrophic events that could happen if such objects collide with airplanes.
