Following a new earthquake that has struck southern Turkey, social media users circulated a video purporting to show the first visuals of the new earthquake that hit the country on February 20.

Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading.

After conducting a thorough reverse image search, Misbar’s team found the video making the rounds to be older than claimed.

This Video Shows the Previous Turkey-Syria Earthquake 

Contrary to the claim, the video shows the previous earthquake that hit Turkey, Syria, and other nearby countries on February 6.

24 SATA, a media outlet, uploaded the same video a week ago. The date and time can be seen on the video’s upper left angle. The video was captured on February 6.

Another media outlet, haber53.com, published the same video.

According to the video’s description, the footage was taken in Diyarbakir, which was affected by the earthquake. The city's security cameras captured the collapse of four buildings.

New Earthquake Struck Turkey and Syria

After being devastated by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that left tens of thousands of people dead two weeks prior, the border region between Turkey and Syria was struck by another 6.43 magnitude earthquake.

According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the earthquake had its epicenter in the southernmost province of Turkey, Hatay, at a depth of 2 kilometers (1.2 miles).

Several minutes later, a second 5.8-magnitude earthquake hit the area, centered in the Samandag neighborhood of Hatay, according to Turkey's disaster management agency.

Six people were reportedly injured in Aleppo due to the falling debris, according to Syria's state news agency SANA.

Three people are dead, and 213 people have been injured in Turkey from Monday's quake, according to the Turkish government.
