Who is Edward Snowden?
Edward Snowden is an American intelligence contractor who revealed in 2013 the existence of secret wide-ranging information-gathering programs conducted by the American National Security Agency.
The claim surfaced in 2013 after Snowden made controversial revelations, including that the NSA had been hacking into Chinese computers since 2009. The U.S. later charged him with espionage, but he fled to Moscow, where he has been living in exile in Russia since exposing the National Security Agency (NSA) program affecting millions of Americans in 2013.
According to reports, top U.S. intelligence officials insisted that the NSA had never knowingly collected data from private phone records.
Edward Snowden has recently been granted Russian citizenship.
What Is HAARP Technology?
HAARP is a former U.S. military program known as the “High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program,” according to the technology’s official website. This technology aims to study the properties and behavior of the ionosphere.
The research facility’s operation was transferred from the U.S. Air Force to the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
Conspiracies Linking HAARP to the Turkey-Syria Earthquake
Following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake hitting Turkey and Syria this month, conspiracy theories surfaced claiming HAARP technology was the principal cause of the disaster. However, this technology can not manipulate the weather or trigger earthquakes. The HAARP waves can only penetrate less than 1cm into the ground, unlike earthquakes that can go much deeper.
Following the devastating earthquake that triggered a wave of misinformation, users have shared images of lenticular clouds, claiming it shows a “HAARP-made cloud” over Turkey just before the disaster.
