This Video Shows the 2011 Japan Earthquake
The circulating video shows the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.
ANNnewsCH, a YouTube channel, published the video on January 17, 2020. According to the translated video’s title, the video was shot at Sendai International Airport, and it shows the earthquake that hit Japan on March 11, 2011.
On February 13, 2020, the same video was uploaded to a published article about the 2011 Japan earthquake.
A 9.1 Magnitude Earthquake Hit Japan on 2011
On March 11, 2011, a 9.1-magnitude earthquake in the Japan Trench occurred off the northeastern coast of Honshu.
Within a short time of the earthquake, a tsunami that was caused by it reached the coast, destroying sea walls and shutting down three nuclear reactors in a matter of days.
Over 18,000 people died as a result of the Great East Japan earthquake and tsunami.

On February 25, 2023, authorities reported that a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck off the eastern coast of the Japanese island of Hokkaido, but no tsunami warning was issued.
The National Research Center for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience estimates that the earthquake occurred 61 kilometers (38 miles) offshore of the Nemuro peninsula (NIED).
No injuries or damage were reported immediately.
