Emerging story
A video purportedly showing Trump supporters shutting down 5th Avenue in New York City right outside Trump Tower on March 19 has gone viral on social media.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the viral video and found the claim to be misleading.
After conducting a thorough reverse image search, Misbar’s team found the video making the rounds to be outdated.
The Video Shows Trump Supporters' Rally in 2020
Contrary to the claim, the video was shot during a Trump supporters' rally on October 4, 2020.
Trump supporters closed 5th Ave. to support the COVID-19-stricken president at the time.
Misbar’s team compared the scene displayed in the circulating footage with a published photo taken during the 2020 rally and found them to feature the same scene.
By comparing the two scenes, we can see many similarities displayed, such as the traffic light, American flags, the man with the red flag, the man with the red blouse, the white car, the direction signs, etc.
The New York Post reported that a convoy of more than 100 vehicles being driven by out-of-town Trump supporters stopped traffic on Fifth Avenue. This was the latest demonstration of solidarity for the president at the time, who was battling the coronavirus.
Most of the vehicles in the long line of automobiles, trucks, and motorcycles had driven from Long Island into the city, causing traffic to stop moving for at least 30 minutes as they approached to vocally cheer for the president outside his Trump Tower home.
In reaction to the rally, Trump left the Walter Reed hospital to greet his supporters gathered outside.
Meanwhile, he received severe criticism for leaving the hospital, which his critics regarded as a dangerous political stunt.
Trump Asked Supporters to Rally
The video surfaced after Trump said he might be detained on Tuesday in connection with payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels as hush money, but there has been no official confirmation of the possibility that charges will be brought.
As he referred to himself in the third person, Trump issued a message on his Truth Social platform, saying: "The far and away leading Republican candidate and former President of the United States of America will be arrested on Tuesday of next week."
