Abdelhak Nouri Woke Up From His Coma in 2020
The news of the former player’s awakening is not recent.
On March 27, 2020, FIFA’s Arabic Twitter account tweeted that Nouri’s brother announced that his brother awoke from a coma.
Abdelhak Nouri’s Injury Ended His Football Career
Midfielder Nouri made his senior debut in 2016–17, but in 2017, he suffered a cardiac arrest during a preseason match against Werder Bremen in Austria, ending his playing career early.
Nouri's brain was severely and permanently damaged. Ajax eventually claimed responsibility for the consequences and recognized that the medical attention provided during the injury's acute phase on the field was inadequate.
After paying 7.85 million euros (£6.5 million) to the family of Abdelhak, Ajax announced that they had struck a deal with Nouri's family and that the procedures before an Arbitration Committee had been discontinued as a result of the amicable settlement.
