Emerging story
Social media users have circulated a clip and claimed it shows a recent Russian attack on a Ukrainian ammunition depot near Kherson, Ukraine.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the claim and found it to be misleading. The video is outdated and unrelated to the ongoing conflict between the two countries.
Old Video of an Explosion Resurfaced
The video was previously shared on YouTube as an explosion in the Kharkiv region. A video compilation posted to the platform in March 2017 featured the clip.
Other videos shared during the same period claimed to show the explosion of an ammunition depot.
News websites also reported on the explosion and shared screenshots from the circulating video in 2017.
According to reports, the explosion occurred in a military warehouse in Kharkiv. The gas supply was cut off in the area, rail communication was temporarily stopped, and the airspace was closed after a fire raged for almost two days.
Russia Destroys Ukrainian Howitzers in Kherson
The claim surfaced after the Russian news agency TASS reported that the Russian armed forces destroyed two Ukrainian howitzers in the Kherson region. The destruction killed four soldiers of the Ukrainian armed forces and caused injuries to three others.
“Ukrainian artillery fired 38 shells at the civilian infrastructure of 4 settlements on the left bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson region,” the news agency wrote.
The attack occurred after more than a year of confrontations between Russia and Ukraine. This war triggered a wave of misinformation online that continues till this day.
