Recent Israeli Raid on Al-Aqsa Mosque

After a year of spiraling carnage in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, violence broke out in the early hours of Wednesday, during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and on the day of the Jewish festival of Passover.

The Israeli police raid on the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem resulted in at least 14 Palestinians being hurt and hundreds being detained, sparking confrontations in the West Bank, cross-border strikes in the Gaza Strip, and concerns of a larger uprising over the holiday season.

By late Wednesday morning, the tensions seemed to have subsided. Palestinians who had been detained stated they had been released with the restriction of not going to the mosque or the Old City for a week as they left the Atarot police station on Wednesday. At dawn prayers, Palestinians under the age of 45 were not allowed within the compound.
