2021 Airstrikes on Gaza
On May 12, 2021, Palestinian militants fired rockets into Israel’s commercial heartland after Israel kept up a punishing bombing campaign in the Gaza Strip and massed tanks and troops on the enclave’s border, Reuters reported.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the campaign would take more time. Meanwhile, Israeli officials said Gaza's ruling Hamas group must be dealt a strong deterrent before any ceasefire.
According to Al Jazeera, the firing coincided with Eid al-Fitr, one of the holiest occasions in the Islamic calendar, when Palestinian residents of the Gaza Strip woke up to relentless aerial bombardment by Israel.
Israel Strikes Gaza and Lebanon
The claim surfaced after airstrikes on the besieged Gaza Strip during the week. The Israeli military claimed it conducted airstrikes in Lebanon on targets allegedly belonging to Hamas.
It is worth mentioning that Israeli forces raided the Al Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem twice this week. The forces expelled the worshipers after over 200 police officers invaded the mosque’s courtyards and roofed chapels.
A massive rocket barrage fired from southern Lebanon toward Israel, who responded. This cross-border fighting was reportedly among the worst since Israel’s conflict with the Hezbollah militants in Lebanon in 2006.
The Israeli military claimed 34 rockets were fired from Lebanon on Thursday, 25 of which were intercepted, and at least four rockets landed on the occupied territory.
