2022 Israeli Aggression on the Gaza Strip
On August 5, 2022, Israeli forces launched an airstrike against a senior PIJ official named Taysir Al-Ja'bari, resulting in his death. Multiple airstrikes were conducted in various locations, including Gaza City, Beit Hanoun, and Khan Younis, as part of an operation known as "Breaking Dawn" during the evening of the same day.
Numerous rockets were fired from several locations in Gaza toward Israel, both short-term and long-term. Throughout the day, exchanges of fire continued between the two sides.
As a result of the airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, several residential buildings were destroyed, and there were fatalities and injuries. According to the MOH in Gaza, as of August 6, 15 Palestinians, including a 5-year-old girl, had been killed and approximately 125 others had been injured.
Recent Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip
Israeli jets launched airstrikes on the coastal enclave of Gaza late on Tuesday, and loud explosions could be heard. Tensions intensified over the passing of a recognized Palestinian prisoner in Israeli custody after an 87-day hunger strike.
Following the death of Khader Adnan earlier on Tuesday, rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip. According to Hamas media, Israeli planes allegedly struck two areas in Gaza City.
At least 26 missiles were fired from the enclave, according to the Israeli military.
Hamas and Islamic Jihad were included in a collective of Palestinian resistance factions that claimed responsibility for rocket attacks on Israel.
Tel Aviv had fired artillery shells earlier in the day, primarily aiming towards the Malaka neighborhood in Khan Younis and Gaza City, according to Al Jazeera's Heba Akkila.
The Israeli airstrike claimed the life of one Palestinian.
