Napoli Clinches Serie A Title Win After 33 Years

Napoli clinched their first Italian Serie A championship in 33 years with a 1-1 draw against Udinese on Thursday. With only five matches remaining, they needed a draw to establish an unbeatable 16-point advantage.

Victor Osimhen, the league's leading goalscorer, netted the crucial equalizer for Napoli in the 52nd minute, sparking jubilant festivities in Naples and across the football community.

Napoli claimed their third Serie A title, breaking a 33-year drought since Diego Maradona guided them to victories in 1987 and 1990. In a tribute to the iconic Argentine player, the team's home stadium was renamed following Maradona's passing in November 2020.

Fatal Incident in Naples Leaves One Dead, Dozens Injured

Naples Prefect Claudio Palomba clarified on RAI public radio that a man in his 20s died from gunshot wounds, but the incident was unrelated to the celebratory atmosphere.

According to reports from ANSA and other Italian news agencies, friends and relatives of the victim vandalized the emergency room where he was being treated. Police are currently investigating the death incident, as stated by Mr. Palomba.

Additionally, among the seven individuals injured during the night, some suffered injuries caused by fireworks. Naples health authorities revealed that a total of 203 people sought emergency services overnight, with 22 classified as having critical injuries ("red-level") and 75 with serious, yet non-life-threatening conditions ("yellow-level").
