2021 Video of Israeli Iron Dome Intercepting Rockets Resurfaces
The video was initially uploaded to Twitter on May 16, 2021, with a caption indicating that it was shot in Israel.
Israeli Hananya Naftali shared the identical video on Facebook on May 16, 2021. The caption indicated that the footage displayed the Israeli Iron Dome system intercepting rockets over the city of Ashdod in Israel.
2021 Israeli Aggression on Gaza
In May 2021, Israel launched a series of airstrikes on Gaza, resulting in the most severe conflict between Israeli forces and Palestinian armed groups since 2014, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
The escalation of hostilities was triggered by escalating tensions in East Jerusalem, including restrictions on Palestinian access to holy sites during Ramadan and the threat of forced evictions of Palestinian families in Sheikh Jarrah by Israeli authorities.
The intense fighting, which lasted from May 10 to May 21, resulted in significant casualties and damage. The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) reported that 261 Palestinians were killed, including 67 children and 41 women.
Gaza Under Attack
As the Israeli military offensive enters its third day, ongoing air attacks by Israel on Gaza have resulted in the deaths of a minimum of 27 Palestinians, including notable figures from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement.
Over 70 individuals have also sustained injuries in the attacks. In response to the Israeli strikes, rockets have been launched as a retaliatory measure.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed strong condemnation, deeming the loss of civilian lives, particularly those of women and children, as unacceptable. Guterres and his spokesperson have called for an immediate cessation of such actions.
