This Old Video Was Shot in the Pacific Ocean

Contrary to viral claims, the video predated Cyclone Biparjoy and was not shot in the Arabian Sea.

The video dates back to February 2023 and displays a rescue operation conducted by the United States Coast Guard near the mouth of the Columbia River in the Pacific Ocean, off the coasts of Washington and Oregon.

Huge Wave Capsizes a Boat in the Pacific Ocean

The U.S. Coast Guard carried out a dramatic rescue operation when a massive wave struck a yacht at the mouth of the Columbia River. The incident was captured on footage, showing a mariner being rescued by a coast guard swimmer. As the swimmer approached the vessel using a winch cable, a massive wave caused the boat to capsize, throwing the mariner into the water.

The swimmer, identified as John Walton, swiftly retrieved the mariner and both were lifted into a helicopter. Subsequently, local authorities informed the coast guard that the rescued individual was suspected of having stolen the yacht.

Cyclone Biparjoy Forces Thousands to Evacuate

Ahead of the anticipated arrival of a "very severe cyclonic storm" named Biparjoy, more than 100,000 individuals have been evacuated in India and Pakistan. Biparjoy, a cyclone that means "disaster" in Bengali, is currently moving across the Arabian Sea and made landfall on Thursday evening, as reported by government meteorological authorities.

C.C. Patel, an official overseeing relief operations in Gujarat, stated that over 47,000 individuals have been relocated from coastal and low-lying regions to shelters. Pakistan's Minister of Climate Change, Sherry Rehman, stated that 62,000 people have been evacuated from the southeastern coast of the country, with 75 relief camps established in schools and colleges.
