Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the viral video and found the claim to be misleading.

A reverse image search revealed the widely circulating video to be unrelated to the recent riots in France after the killing of the boy, Nahel.

Movie Scene Claimed to Show Riots in France

Contrary to the claim circulating, the video shows a part of a movie scene during the shooting of the 2017 movie "The Fate of the Furious."

Justin King, a Twitter user, published the same viral video on June 3, 2016, under the caption, “Fast & Furious 8 filming in Cleveland. Imagine if you weren't aware and suddenly saw this. (h/t Kasey Crabtree)”

France Riots After the Murder of Nahel

During the fifth night of riots in France, the police made a minimum of 700 arrests. However, authorities stated that the scale and intensity of the violence, which erupted following the fatal police shooting of a teenager, of Algerian and Moroccan descent, seemed to be subsiding, despite an attack on a local mayor's residence.

The Ministry reported that over 40 officers were injured, 577 vehicles were set on fire, 74 buildings were ignited, and 871 fires were lit in streets and other public areas.

To maintain control, more than 7,000 officers were deployed in the greater Paris region, including along the renowned Champs Élysées, in response to social media calls for gatherings there.

The funeral of 17-year-old Nahel M, who died after being shot by a police officer during a traffic stop, took place peacefully on Saturday in the Paris suburb of Nanterre, where he resided.
