Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the video and found the claim to be misleading.

A thorough reverse image search revealed the video making the rounds to be outdated.

The Video Does Not Feature Recent Riots in London

The original video features Iranian individuals beating an intelligence officer as they accuse him of photographing Iranian protesters on the streets of London following the tragic death of Mahsa Amini.

The Persian Independent’s Facebook account shared in alternative version of the video on September 25, 2022, filmed from a different angle.
The translated English caption states, "On the basis that it is widely spread in social media, there are two opponents of the Islamic Republic and two defenders in London. Its video was destroyed by the agents of the Iranian government who attacked and insulted the country's decision."

Worldwide Protests in Support of Iran

Activists and Iranian diaspora community members have launched an extraordinary wave of protests in over 150 cities globally, expressing their opposition to the Islamic Republic.

The opposition came after the hijab police killed the 22-year-old woman, Mahsa Amini.

The protests commenced in Australia, New Zealand, and East Asia, then extended to various European cities, and concluded with scheduled rallies in cities across the Americas.

There has been a significant increase in regular protests both inside Iran and internationally. Amini's murder has sparked a widespread uprising, with people voicing their grievances against the authorities through persistent demonstrations.

Are Protests Moving to Europe?

According to the National, the death of a firefighter during France's recent riots underscores the violent unrest, overshadowing the legitimate demands for justice and reform following a fatal police shooting.

The arson, looting, and vandalism have resulted in widespread damage, injuries, and the need for community healing. Similarly, a controversial decision in Sweden allowed a man to desecrate a copy of the Quran, highlighting the importance of common sense, restraint, and responsibility from decision-makers, police, and demonstrators.

France's response to the unrest, fueled by issues like alienation, racism, and unemployment, will require a long-lasting and nuanced approach, with the far right ready to exploit divisions. Clarifying the rules and conduct of protests is necessary to prevent further damage and ensure respectful demonstrations.
