Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading.
After conducting a reverse image search, Misbar’s team found the video to be older than claimed.
Video of Landslides in India is Older than Claimed
Contrary to the claim, the original footage dates back to July 2019.
The Tribune’s YouTube channel uploaded the same video on July 28, 2019. The video’s title reads, “Jammu-Srinagar highway closed due to shooting stones in Ramban.”
ABP News’s YouTube channel also shared snippets of the video on July 8, 2019, under the title, “Scary Visuals Of Landslide From Ramban, Jammu.”
Highway Closed Due to Shooting Stones in India
According to reports, the Jammu-Srinagar national highway had to be shut down for vehicles in July 2019 due to the continuous shooting of stones in Ramban district.
The District Traffic Inspector, NHW Banihal Imtiyaz Khateeb, stated that the flow of traffic on the Ramban-Banihal stretch, particularly at Pantiyal, Digdool, and Kela, was halted due to frequent shooting stones. He urged commuters to refrain from traveling on the Ramban-Banihal route until the weather conditions improve and the road becomes safe and suitable for traffic.
41 Indians Killed Due to Flash Floods
Following heavy rainfall in northern India, flash floods and landslides have occurred, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 41 lives, according to local authorities. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has reported that Himachal Pradesh, one of the affected states, has recorded 31 fatalities. Furthermore, neighboring Punjab has reported 10 deaths, as conveyed by Revenue Minister Brahm Shankar Jimpa to the Indian news agency ANI.
In response to the situation, rescue efforts have been launched, involving the deployment of six helicopters. These operations have successfully evacuated over 2,000 individuals thus far.
While the Indian Meteorological Department predicts further rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, they anticipate a reduction in its intensity.
