After conducting a thorough reverse image search, Misbar’s team found the videos making the rounds to be outdated and unrelated to India’s recent floods.
The First Crocodile Video Was Shot in 2019
The first video shows a Crocodile entering a residential complex due to waterlogging in Vadodara, India in August 2019.
A YouTube channel called “DeshGujaratHD” uploaded the same video on August 31, 2019.
The Times of India also uploaded the video from a different angle on August 4, 2019.
According to reports, the heavy rainfall in Vadodara caused waterlogging, leading to multiple incidents of crocodiles entering housing complexes.
A team of rescuers successfully captured crocodiles and reptiles that were found on India's streets at the time.
The Second Video of a Crocodile Dates Back to 2022
The video dates back to August 2022. According to media reports, a crocodile entered a residential colony in Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh, during heavy rainfall at the time.
@Pankajtumhara, a Twitter user, published the video on August 14, 2022.
India Today’s Twitter account also published the video under the caption, “An eight-foot-long crocodile spotted in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh amid heavy rainfall. Watch.”
India Police Refuted the Circulating Video
According to Baldev Nagar SHO Ram Kumar, a police official, there is no credible information regarding the Circulating video of a crocodile in the streets of Ambala.
He states that the circulated video is fake, and their patrols in the flood-affected area have not reported any such incident recently.
41 Dead After Flash Floods in India
In northern India, heavy rainfall has triggered flash floods and landslides, resulting in the loss of at least 41 lives, as reported by local authorities. Himachal Pradesh, one of the affected states, has recorded 31 fatalities, as stated by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. Additionally, neighboring Punjab has reported 10 deaths, according to Revenue Minister Brahm Shankar Jimpa, as reported by the Indian news agency ANI.
In response to the situation, six helicopters have been mobilized for rescue operations, leading to the evacuation of more than 2,000 individuals thus far.
Although the Indian Meteorological Department forecasts additional rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, they anticipate a decrease in intensity.
