A thorough reverse image search revealed the video making the rounds to be older than claimed.
Footage of Pro-Trump Supporters Marching in Tokyo is Old
Contrary to the circulating claims, the video actually originates from January 2021 and does not feature a recent rally of Japanese supporters of Donald Trump.
Reuters published the original video on January 7, 2021, under the title, "Pro-Trump supporters march in Tokyo."
The Metro website also published photos from the same rally in an article dated January 7, 2021.
Japanese March in Support of Donald Trump in 2021
The demonstrators carried American, Japanese, and South Korean flags, chanted anti-Chinese Communist Party and anti-media slogans in multiple languages, and some held signs with messages like 'East Asia Love Trump' and 'Japan stands with Trump.'
These pro-Trump demonstrations have been occurring in Japan since his election loss in November, despite some confusion over his policies. In Washington DC, Trump supporters attempted to storm the Capitol Building, resulting in violence and global leaders calling for an end to the riots.
2021 Capitol Riots
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has been charged with multiple counts, including conspiracy to defraud the United States, tampering with a witness, and conspiracy against the rights of citizens.
These charges stem from an investigation into the events leading up to the January 6, 2021, riot at the U..S Capitol, during which Trump supporters stormed Congress in an attempt to prevent the certification of Joe Biden's election victory. This indictment marks a significant development in the ongoing legal and political aftermath of those events.
Trump Is Running for President in 2024
In the 2024 presidential race, a total of seventeen candidates are in the running, including 13 Republicans, three Democrats, and one third-party candidate. However, the political landscape is still heavily influenced by the two prominent figures from the 2020 election: President Joe Biden and former President Donald J. Trump.
Despite the presence of a dozen Republican candidates challenging Trump's position, he maintains a significant lead in the polls. This is due in part to the fragmentation within the Republican field, which makes it challenging for voters to unite around a single alternative candidate. Moreover, Trump's continued influence over the party's base has played a significant role in his front-runner status.
