Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the viral video and found it to be fake.

After a thorough investigation, Misbar’s team found the video making the rounds to be doctored.

Video of a Massive Storm in Libya Is Edited

The video does not feature an actual event of a severe storm recently impacting Libya. The video has been digitally manipulated.

After conducting an extensive reverse image search, Misbar's team traced the video back to its original source on TikTok.

The TikTok account "rtsarovvideo" first posted the video clip on September 4, which was before the occurrence of Storm Daniel in Libya. At that time, the video started circulating with the claim that it showed a hurricane hitting the U.S. state of Florida.

Hurricane Idalia Hits Florida

Hurricane Idalia struck Florida with incredible speed on August 30. It caused significant damage, splitting trees in half, and tearing roofs off hotels. After hitting Florida, the powerful storm continued its path into Georgia and South Carolina, leading to flooding on roadways and prompting residents to seek higher ground.

Idalia officially made landfall near Keaton Beach, ranking as a high-end Category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds reaching nearly 125 mph (205 kph).

Storm Daniel in Libya Claims Lives of Over 6000

Nearly 10,000 individuals are missing in Libya following a devastating storm that struck its eastern coastline this week, as reported by the Red Cross.

The current death toll has reached 6,000, and it is anticipated to increase as efforts continue to retrieve bodies.

Storm Daniel originated over Greece on September 4, resulting in powerful winds, torrential rainfall, flooding, and casualties in Greece, Turkey, and Bulgaria before crossing the Mediterranean.

A few days after its formation, the storm hit Libya, leading to extensive flooding in cities along the eastern coast, including Benghazi, Bayda, and Derna on Sunday. Derna suffered the most severe impact, with two dams upstream from the city bursting and unleashing an estimated 30 million cubic meters (39 million cubic yards) of water, which subsequently surged through the city with approximately 100,000 residents.
