Recently, a video of desperate and homeless people has gone viral on social media alleging that it is a video of Canadian cities.
Social media users shared the video along with the caption, “Canadian cities are turning into the next San Francisco.” Some social media users blamed the Canadian government for this miserable state of the people and the streets.

Misbar investigated the circulating video and found it to be misleading. The video is unrelated to any Canadian city.
The Video Shows Philadelphia in the U.S, Not Canadian Cities
The video does not show Canadian cities but Kensington areas in Philadelphia City. The video was first posted on TikTok with the caption “Kensington Areas” in the first seconds of the clip. Social media users who shared the claim cropped the first seconds of the video to skip the location.
Misbar’s team was also able to trace one of the buildings in the video and found it to be from Philadelphia. This building has an “Allegheny Station” banner on it.
This station is located at the intersection of Kensington and Allegheny Avenues and H Street in the Kensington neighborhood of North Philadelphia.

Homelessness in the United States is a major crisis. In Philadelphia, the number of homeless people has been increasing and doubling over the last five years. According to the Philadelphia Office of Homeless Services FY 2022 Data Snapshot, 18% of homeless people in Philadelphia are unsheltered and do not have a suitable place to live.
The homeless population in Philadelphia is about 1.083. However, Philadelphia has the lowest rate of homelessness compared to other states as Los Angeles has a homeless population of 22,887, and New York has a homeless population of 3.675.

Inflation in Canada has begun to rise since the early days of 2021, affecting all aspects of life for Canadians, such as food and shelter. In 2022, Canadians reported that rising prices affected their lives directly, preventing them from buying their daily needs. A lot of people were concerned about whether they could afford housing or rent.
According to the last report on the inflation rate by Reuters, on August 15, Canada’s annual inflation rate rose to 3.3% in July. Experts attribute this rise in inflation to gasoline prices.
