Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the video and found the claim to be misleading.

A thorough reverse image search revealed the video making the rounds to be unrelated to the ongoing Gaza-Israel clashes.

The Video Was Shot in Mexico in 2017

In contrast to the circulating claim, the video captures a shootout between police officers and drug gangs in Mexico in 2017.

A YouTube channel published the video on August 24, 2017, showing a confrontation between police officers and a drug cartel in RΓo Bravo, Tamaulipas, Mexico.

Israel’s Airstrikes Killed More Than 198 Palestinians

This incident occurred when officers were pursuing a black Chevrolet van. The van came to a stop, at which point officers exited the vehicle brandishing weapons and began firing. Later in the day, another pursuit took place, which reportedly led to the closure and blockage of several city streets to ensure the safety of residents not involved in the incident.

According to medical sources in Gaza, at least 198 Palestinians have lost their lives in Israeli airstrikes, which were launched in response to a Hamas operation that resulted in the deaths of at least 70 Israelis. Hamas stated that their unexpected and large-scale operation was a reaction to the desecration of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and a surge in settler violence.

Hamas has claimed responsibility for firing thousands of rockets and reported the capture of "a big number" of Israelis following the infiltration of their fighters from the Gaza Strip into Israel.

This operation occurred in the wake of recent incidents where thousands of settlers provocatively toured the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in occupied East Jerusalem during the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. Furthermore, there has been a significant increase in Israeli settler violence against Palestinians over the past year, averaging three incidents per day during the first eight months of 2023, according to the United Nations.
