Amid Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, social media users widely shared a video clip purporting to show a pro-Palestine demonstration in Istanbul, Turkey. In the video, the crowd is seen chanting, "Send Our Soldiers to #Gaza."
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the footage and found the claim to be misleading.
A thorough reverse image search revealed the video making the rounds to be old and unrelated to Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.
Old Video of a Pro-Palestine Demonstration in Istanbul
Contrary to the circulating claim, the video is not recent. It dates back to May 2021.
The video shows a demonstration in support of Palestine in front of the Israeli embassy on May 8, 2021.
An X user published the video on May 10, along with the translated caption, “Currently in front of the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul.”
The demonstration was a response to the clashes that erupted between Palestinian resistance factions and Israeli occupation forces, stemming from the eviction of Palestinian families from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood. Subsequently, Israeli forces repeatedly stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque and clashed with Palestinians. They also launched a fierce attack on the Gaza Strip.
Israel Declares a Total Blockade on Gaza
Israel has declared a total blockade on the besieged Gaza Strip, which includes a prohibition on the entry of food and water.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced on Monday that authorities would disrupt electricity supply and prevent the import of food and fuel. This area is home to approximately 2.3 million people and is one of the most densely populated regions globally.
The intense bombardment has led to the displacement of over 120,000 individuals within the besieged Palestinian enclave. Moreover, the Israeli army has assembled a force of 100,000 reserve troops near Gaza. Palestinian resistance fighters claim to be holding 130 people captive in the area.
The most recent casualty figures indicate that 510 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed by Israel, according to health officials, while Israeli medical services report that more than 800 Israelis have been affected. Hamas's unexpected attack followed Israeli settlers' incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in recent days and a record number of Palestinian fatalities caused by Israeli actions in recent months.
On Saturday, demonstrations in support of Palestine erupted in numerous countries, including Iran, Turkey, Yemen, Kuwait, and various others.
