Emerging story
In light of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, social media users circulated a video purporting to feature a salvo of rockets fired by Hamas from the Gaza Strip toward Israel.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the footage and found the claim to be misleading.
After conducting a thorough reverse image search, Misbar’s team found the video making the rounds to be outdated and unrelated to Gaza and Israel.
Outdated Video Is from Syria, Not Gaza
The video is not related to Gaza, as claimed. Haber48, a Turkish media outlet, shared the original footage on February 3, 2020, stating it was intense artillery shelling by Syrian regime forces in Idlib.
Besides, a YouTube channel uploaded the video at the time, stating it was shot in Syria.
The Turkish Ministry of Defense reported the deaths of four soldiers and the injuries of nine others in the exchange of fire. At that time, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that Turkey had responded "in kind" to these attacks and continued strikes in specified areas using Howitzer artillery and F-16 aircraft.
Gaza Hospitals Struggle Amid Ongoing Israeli Bombardment
Gaza's hospitals are facing immense challenges as the Israeli army continues its bombardment of the Gaza Strip, which began four days after Hamas launched a major attack, involving rockets and fighters, into Israel, referred to as the Al-Aqsa Flood. Reports indicate that the Israeli military targeted areas near the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.
In response to this dire situation, the Palestinian Health Ministry and the World Health Organization (WHO) are jointly appealing for the creation of a humanitarian corridor. This corridor is essential to ensure the delivery of urgently required medical supplies to Gaza's overwhelmed hospitals.
Furthermore, people in Gaza are grappling with severe disruptions in communication networks due to a recent military strike targeting a telecommunications company in the region, exacerbating the challenges faced by the population.
As of Tuesday midday, the death toll stood at over 830 Palestinians in Gaza and more than 900 in Israel. Hamas's unexpected operation on Saturday followed Israeli settlers' recent incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and a significant number of Palestinian casualties caused by Israeli actions in recent months.
The United Nations (UN) has recently condemned the full blockade of Gaza.
