Emerging story
Following Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, social media users widely shared a video claiming to show Hamas members in Gaza detaining Israeli children and confining them in cages after apprehending them on Saturday.
The video has amassed millions of views, accompanied by comments and posts full of hatred against Palestinians.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the viral video and found the claim to be misleading.
A thorough reverse image search revealed the footage making the rounds to be older than claimed, predating the recent operation on the Gaza border.
These Are Not Israeli Children Caged in Gaza
The video is not connected to Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, as claimed. Social media users shared scenes from the same clip published by a TikTok user with the username "user6903068251281," indicating that it was posted on the platform about four days before the start of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation, launched on October 7th of this year. However, the video was later removed from the platform.
The original publisher used the hashtag "The Chinese People Have No Solution," a hashtag commonly used on TikTok for sharing humorous content, suggesting that the video was created satirically, possibly as a joke.
The Original User’s Clarification on the Video
Later, the original video publisher also shared another video, revealing the truth about the viral video. The children in the cages seen in the footage were his relatives, not Zionist children. Besides, he confirmed that the video was captured three days prior to the recent operation and is unrelated to the recent escalation.
Moreover, Misbar's team conducted a search on the publisher's TikTok account and discovered that he is located in Gaza, as seen by a video he posted while swimming near a well-known area in the Port of Gaza.
