Emerging story
Following the Al-Aqsa Flood, particularly pro-Israel social media users widely shared a video alleging to show a Hamas paraglider electrocuted and killed while attempting to parachute into Israel.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating footage and found the claim to be misleading.
A thorough reverse image search revealed the video making the rounds to be outdated and unrelated to the ongoing war on Gaza.
The Video Shows a South Korean Paraglider Electrocuted
Contrary to the widely disseminated claim, the video is not connected to the ongoing operation on the Gaza border.
The video is outdated and has been circulating online since June 17. As reported by Korean media, on June 16, the Jeju West Fire Department in South Korea received an alert concerning a paraglider who was electrocuted on high-voltage power lines near Seogwipo Beach, Seongsan-eup.
The 60-year-old paraglider had already lost his life on the spot after firefighters reached the scene.
Israel Air Strikes Intensify Killing Many Gaza Civilians
An Israeli minister has announced a severe restriction on Gaza, preventing the entry of electricity, fuel, and humanitarian aid into Gaza until Hamas releases Israeli captives. Israel has continued its intense airstrikes on Gaza, leading to significant casualties.
Gaza officials have issued dire warnings about an impending humanitarian crisis as the region's only power plant had to halt operations due to fuel shortages. In response to Hamas's unexpected operation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to "destroy" the group and formed an emergency unity government with opposition leader Benny Gantz.
Medical organizations report that Israeli air strikes have targeted healthcare facilities. The Health Ministry said that fifteen ambulances and nine health institutions have been hit, including the Ministry of Health building, the Rimal Clinic, and the International Eye Center.
The ongoing Israeli war has claimed the lives of more than 1,350 Palestinians in Gaza, while in Israel, the death toll has risen to over 1,300 people.
