The Claim

A video shows Egyptians crossing border to deliver aid to Gaza.

Emerging story

Recently, accounts and pages on social media have been circulating a video that claims to show some Egyptians crossing the Palestinian border to deliver water and food to Palestine during the ongoing war.

The video shows a group of men carrying luggage on their backs. They are walking through a desert landscape. The video is captioned with the text: "Egyptians cross the desert into Palestine to carry water, food and supplies for the people of Gaza."

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading.

The video predates Operation Al-Aqsa Flood and was taken on the Egyptian-Libyan Border

Misbar's team found that the video was posted on TikTok on August 13, 2023, by user1368146280095. The caption of the video says "Saloum, the western border of Egypt, Matrouh, and there it is." This suggests that the video was filmed on the Egyptian-Libyan border near the city of Matrouh.

It is also noted that the luggage carried by the people in the circulating video is similar to the luggage in other videos published as people smuggling goods into Libya for trade.

Over 700 Children Killed and Thousands Injured in Gaza

According to UNICEF, more than 700 children have lost their lives in Gaza since last Saturday, with another 2,450 children sustaining injuries.

The hospitals in Gaza are facing unprecedented challenges due to the ongoing conflict, struggling to cope with the overwhelming number of casualties. This has resulted in some patients being treated in hallways and hospital courtyards. The Palestinian Ministry of Health has reported that Gaza hospitals are experiencing a decline in their clinical, pharmaceutical, and fuel capacities. Despite being targeted, medical crews have remained steadfast in their positions, refusing to leave their posts.
