Emerging story
Pro-Israel accounts shared a photo of a young girl being rescued in Gaza. According to the claim, the same girl was rescued in three different locations, which proves that it was staged.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading.
The Photo Was Taken in Syria in 2016, Not Gaza
Misbar's team found that the images dated back to 2016 and were taken by photographer Ameer Alhalbi in the Maadi district of eastern Aleppo.
We conducted a thorough investigation of the viral collage of photos of a girl being rescued by different men, and we found another photo listed on GettyImages, that shows one rescuer handing over the same girl to another rescuer who is seen in the third photo. This clearly means that they are from the same incident and the same girl who was handed over to different people while being rescued that day.
Gaza Faces Severe Communication Crisis Amid Escalating War
Amidst the relentless airstrikes launched by Israel on the Gaza Strip, a prominent Palestinian telecommunications provider reported a distressing development. Paltel, also known as the Palestine Telecommunications Company, revealed a "complete disruption of all communication and internet services" in Gaza on Friday. This blackout, according to independent internet monitoring groups cited by CNN, marks the most severe interruption since the onset of the recent Israel war on Gaza on October 7. As a result, concerns are mounting over the ability of Palestinian civilians to connect with the outside world during the intensifying war.
In a Facebook post, Paltel expressed regret over the situation, emphasizing the impact of the ongoing aggression. The company, responsible for delivering internet and cellular services in Gaza and the West Bank, acknowledged the criticality of uninterrupted communication channels, which now face significant challenges amidst the escalating conflict.
