Al-Quds Hospital in Gaza City Faces Fuel Shortage, Scaling Back Operations
The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) announced on Wednesday that the Al-Quds Hospital in Gaza City is being forced to reduce its operations due to a severe fuel shortage. In a statement, the PRCS highlighted the hospital's struggle to maintain essential services in the coming days.
According to the PRCS, the hospital's fuel supply was rapidly depleting, with the expectation of running out completely today. Consequently, the hospital had to switch off its main generator and rely on a smaller backup generator for limited power.
To cope with the fuel crisis, the hospital made the difficult decision to close its surgical ward, MRI and medical imaging ward, and oxygen generation plant. In an effort to conserve electricity, each building within the hospital is now receiving only two hours of power daily, starting from 5 p.m. local time. This measure ensures that the 14,000 displaced individuals seeking refuge at the hospital have access to the minimum electricity required for their basic needs.
