After conducting a thorough reverse image search, Misbar’s team found the Image of white phosphorus bombs to be misleading and unrelated to the recent war on Gaza.

This Image Was Taken in Syria 2017, Not in Gaza

Misbar’s  team found that the image dates back to 2017, and shows air strikes by the U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State in Raqqa, Syria.

Khalil Mukdad, a Syrian writer and researcher published the image on his X account on 9 June, 2017. He commented, saying that this is not fireworks, this is U.S. army bombing Raqqa with white phosphorus after they bombed Mosul, in Iraq. 

We conducted a thorough investigation of the viral claim that shows phosphor bombs in Gaza, and we found the same photo in a published article on June 11, 2017. The article stated that white phosphorous bombs were used by the U.S.-led coalition against The Islamic State in  Raqqa, Syria.

What Are White Phosphorus Bombs?

White phosphorus is a white to yellow waxy solid that is used for military purposes to produce illumination, to generate a smokescreen and as an incendiary.  Any exposure to white phosphorus can cause severe burns. In addition the use of white phosphorus may violate Protocol III (on the use of incendiary weapons) of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCCW).

Palestinian Health Ministry Calls for End to ‘Massacres’ Against Gaza’s Hospitals

In a statement, the minister of Health in Ramallah, Mai Al-Kaila called for an end to the massacres against hospitals and patients and displaced people sheltering in hospitals.

The minister highlighted the dire condition of Gaza's healthcare infrastructure, noting that 20 out of 35 hospitals in Gaza are now completely non-functional. Adding that the catastrophe that is occurring in Gaza now has not been witnessed in Palestinian and international history.
