The Claim

Joe Biden pledge to resolve crises in Palestine, Syria, and Yemen.

Emerging story

Recently, a video has gone viral on social media featuring U.S. President Joe Biden making pledges to resolve humanitarian crises in Syria, Yemen, and Gaza while expressing support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. This video further incorporates a Hadith (noble saying) of the Prophet Muhammad that says, "Whosoever of you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then [let him change it] with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart…"

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the claim and found it to be misleading. Contrary to the circulating claims, the video dates back to July 20, 2020, during the electoral campaign of the then-Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, and not related to the ongoing Israeli war in Gaza.

Joe Biden Aims To Secure Support From Muslim Voters

Democratic candidate Joe Biden aimed to garner support from Muslim citizens during the presidential elections through a virtual election conference organized by the "Emgage" organization, dedicated to the political rights of American Muslims, held on July 20, 2020.

Biden urged American voters of Islamic heritage to join him in the fight to cleanse the U.S. government of the "poison," alluding to his opponent, Donald Trump. He expressed, "I want to earn your vote not just because he [Trump] is not worthy of being president, [but because] I want to work in partnership with you, ensuring that your voices are included in the decision-making process as we work to rebuild our nation.”

During his speech, Biden asserted his commitment to address humanitarian crises in Syria, Yemen, and Gaza, advocate for an independent Palestinian state, and promptly lift the ban on Muslim entering the United States on the first day of his presidency. In reinforcing his stance, Biden cited the hadith of Prophet Muhammad that says: “Whosoever of you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then [let him change it] with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart — and that is the weakest of faith.”

Biden: The Ongoing War in Gaza Serves Hamas Ideology

The timing of these circulated claims coincides with Biden's statements warning that the continuation of the war in Gaza would inherently support and fortify the ideological stronghold of Hamas. Furthermore, the White House previously stated that a permanent ceasefire in Gaza would only enhance Hamas' position.
