Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the viral footage and found the claim to be misleading.

The assault was not perpetuated by an Israeli settler. According to reports, the woman's father and brother were apprehended on suspicion of being involved in her murder.

Pregnant Palestinian Mother Stabbed in Apparent Criminal Act

Contrary to the social media users' claim, the video does not show an Israeli settler fatally stabbing a pregnant Palestinian woman.

Later, it was determined that the victim, identified as Aya Abu Hujaj, is a Palestinian woman from Lod.

Al Araby TV reporter Ahmad Yassine dispels rumors of an Israeli settler's involvement in the attack on Aya Abu Hujaj. Yassine clarified that the tragic incident, where Aya was killed while accompanying her daughter to school in Lod, had a criminal motive. Two suspects, identified as family members from Bedouin villages in the Negev and Lod, have been apprehended, as stated in Yassine's tweet on the X platform.

Rising Incidence of Women Violence in the Arab Community

The Abraham Initiatives revealed that the recent incident signifies 222 fatalities within Israel's Arab community this year, marking a significant surge from last year's total of 103 in 2022. The nonprofit additionally documented 188 Palestinian casualties between January and July 2023, a notable increase of 2.3 times compared to the same period last year, which recorded 47 fatalities.

Illegally possessed firearms were identified as a prevalent factor in incidents leading to the murder of Palestinian victims.

Arab Israeli community leaders attribute the escalating violence to the police, citing a failure to combat powerful criminal organizations effectively and a tendency to overlook various forms of violence, such as family feuds, turf wars among criminal groups, and violence against women.
