A video that has gained considerable attention online purports to depict a large-scale march in London, falsely associating it with the recent war on Gaza.

Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading.

This Video Dates Back to the 2021 Shia Religious March of Ashura Day in London

Misbar’s team found that the video is from the march of  Ashura Day (the 10th day of the first month of the Islamic calendar (Muharram) which marks a holy day) of Shia Muslims in London back in 2021. The video was first posted on YouTube, August 19, 2021. These processions were held by The Hussaini Foundation.

Moreover, we found the Ashura Day demonstration of The Hussaini Association public Instagram account, which was posted on August 16, 2021.

It demonstrates the second destination “Oxford Street” which matches with the viral video

Moreover,, London’s Metropolitan Police Service official handle replied to a deleted (X) post by the Editor, Jewish Chronicle Jake Wallis Simons stating, "This video has been shared a lot this weekend. We’ve seen a number of comments from people who are under the impression it was filmed recently or that it relates to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. We believe it was actually filmed at an Ashura Day event in 2021. It has no link to current events."

Central London was packed with tens of thousands of people who turned out to demand a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. Israel’s military now resumed its airstrikes immediately after the end of its truce with Hamas. More than 1.7 million people have been displaced in Gaza, and more than 15,800 have been killed by Israeli attacks since October 7, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
