According to B’Tselem, The Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories strives to end Israel’s occupation, On Wednesday, June 9, 2021, a group of Israeli soldiers arrived in the Masafer Yatta region located in the South Hebron Hills. They brought along a D9 bulldozer and proceeded to demolish a 500-meter stretch of road leading to the community of She’b al-Batum.

This road included sections that were paved with concrete. Additionally, they destroyed a 500-meter dirt road that connected to Khirbet al-Mufaqarah. Furthermore, a water pipe that provided service to the al-Fakhit community, where 15 families reside, was also intentionally damaged. However, the residents managed to repair the pipe afterwards.

It is not the first time that the military has obstructed the roads leading to She’b al-Batum, with the most recent incident occurring in March 2020. Despite these roadblocks, the residents have consistently taken action to remove them. This continuous disruption of roads and destruction of pipelines is a recurring tactic employed by Israel to harass Palestinian communities, particularly in the South Hebron Hills area and specifically in Masafer Yatta. The underlying objective is to forcibly displace these communities from the region and evict them from their homes.
