Emerging story
A picture circulating on social media recently allegedly shows activists swapping out an American flag with a Palestinian flag during a recent demonstration held at the Golden Gate Bridge.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading.
Misbar's team found a video mentioned in a yahoo News article demonstrating that activists raised a Palestinian flag alongside the American flag, without removing the latter.
As per the article, a gathering of demonstrators marched on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco on Wednesday morning, advocating for a halt to the ongoing war on Gaza. Unlike a previous protest on the Bay Bridge that disrupted traffic for hours, these protesters stayed on the sidewalk.
Some footage from the bridge showed a Palestinian flag being raised alongside the American flag at the observation area, where a small group of marchers gathered. The protest involved a few dozen participants, as stated in a news release by the organizing group, which consisted of faith leaders, concerned residents, and individuals of faith. Their objective is to urge local, state, and federal leaders to promptly and permanently declare a ceasefire.
Mourning and Accusations Surrounding Journalist's Death in Gaza
Hundreds of people gathered in Khan Younis, located in southern Gaza, on Saturday to pay their respects to Samer Abu Daqqa, an Al Jazeera journalist who lost his life in an airstrike on Friday.
During the procession, Abu Daqqa's body, wrapped in a white cloth and still wearing the press vest and helmet he had on when he was injured, was carried on the shoulders of the assembled crowd from Al-Nasser Medical complex to a nearby cemetery.
Following the incident, Abu Daqqa's employer accused the Israeli Forces of deliberately targeting and killing Al Jazeera journalists and their families. In response, the Israeli military stated that it has never intentionally targeted journalists and emphasizes its commitment to taking all feasible measures to protect both civilians and journalists during operations.
