Emerging story
Recently, social media accounts and pages have circulated a video claiming to depict an Egyptian teenager creating a breach in the border wall between Egypt and Gaza to deliver bread to Gaza residents amidst the ongoing Israeli blockade and current war on the Gaza Strip.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the claim and found it to be misleading. The circulated video footage is old and does not depict an Egyptian teenager creating a breach in the border wall between Egypt and Gaza to deliver bread to Gaza residents.
A Scene From a Film Depicting the Separation Wall in the West Bank
The original circulated footage is from a scene in the documentary film "Infiltrators - Mutasallilun" by Palestinian director Khaled Jarrar. This documentary, produced in 2012, depicts the struggles of Palestinians in the West Bank with the separation wall.
The film depicts the actions of the occupation soldiers at checkpoints and their interactions with Palestinian civilians. It narrates stories and anecdotes of individuals seeking to live their ordinary lives, visit Jerusalem, and reunite with their families in the occupied or settler-controlled territories.
The same claim was previously circulated by media outlets in 2015, stating that it was a young Palestinian attempting to smuggle Jerusalem bread into the West Bank through the separation wall. It should be noted that Israel built this barrier in the West Bank near the Green Line to prevent Palestinian residents from entering the occupied territories or Israeli settlements.
Humanitarian Aid Entry Into Gaza via Rafah Crossing
The claim circulates amid humanitarian aid buildup at the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt, with international calls to open the crossing for aid entry to the blockaded Gaza Strip. The region has been grappling with food and medicine shortages since the onset of the Israeli aggression on October 7.
On Thursday, December 21, Cairo News Channel reported that approximately 150 aid trucks departed from the Rafah border crossing in Egypt to Gaza.
Moreover, the Cairo News Channel's correspondent clarified that dozens of trucks had departed from the gate of the Rafah land crossing to the Palestinian side, lining up to unload their cargo, surpassing 150 trucks.
Media outlets had reported the opening of the Kerem Shalom crossing between Israel and the Gaza Strip for aid trucks for the first time since the start of the Israeli aggression, aiming to increase the entry of food and medicine trucks into the region.
