U.S. Naval Response to Maersk Hangzhou’s Red Sea Distress Call

Within a day, the United States received another urgent call for help from the Maersk Hangzhou, a container ship, in the Red Sea. When American helicopters arrived to provide assistance , they encountered gunfire from Houthi rebels.

As per the U.S. Central Command, Navy helicopters retaliated, leading to the destruction of three boats and the death of the rebels. The second call for help was made at 6:30 a.m. local time in Sanaa on Sunday.

Earlier, the U.S. had revealed intercepting two anti-ship ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi rebels. This was prompted by the Singapore-flagged, Denmark-owned Maersk Hangzhou reporting a missile strike at 8:30 p.m. Sanaa time on Saturday, requesting assistance.
