The picture dates back to May 24, 2020, and was taken after the landing of a cargo plane belonging to the Israeli government's airline (El Al) in the city of Istanbul, Turkey. This marked the first time in 10 years since the resumption of trade between Turkey and Israel.
Turkey Urges an Immediate Cessation of the Gaza War
Turkey has not announced support for Israel in the ongoing war in Gaza; instead, it has consistently condemned the aggression and called for an end to the continuous attacks on the region since October 7 of last year.
In statements, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan criticized Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip and defended Hamas as a group fighting for Palestinian rights and national liberation.
Erdoğan explained that the United States encourages Israel to continue its massacres in Gaza rather than stopping and restraining them. He argued that Israel violates international law and human rights with the support of the United States.
Turkish Authorities Expel Israeli Footballer Over Endorsement of Gaza War
The Israeli football player, Sagiv Jehezkel, who plays for the Turkish team Antalyaspor, stirred significant controversy after scoring a recent goal. His celebration appeared to endorse the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza, which has persisted for more than 100 days.
Subsequently, security forces in the Antalya province in southern Turkey detained the player on charges of "inciting people to hatred and hostility" as part of an investigation initiated by the public prosecutor.
Antalyaspor, the Turkish football club, announced the expulsion of the Israeli player from its ranks, stating in a press release, "Following a politically motivated gesture by Sagiv Jehezkel after scoring a goal in the match against Trabzonspor, the club has decided to exclude him from the team's lineup."
The club clarified that the Israeli player "engaged in an act conflicting with the national values of our country."
Following his release, Turkish authorities announced that the Israeli player Sagiv Jehezkel had left the country and returned to the occupied Palestinian territories.
