Emerging story
Recently, a viral video circulating on social media suggests that the Parisian landmark “Eiffel Tower” recently caught fire.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulated video and found the claim to be misleading.
The Eiffel Tower Was Not On Fire
After conducting a thorough reverse image search, Misbar’s team found that the same was posted to YouTube on July 18, 2023, by the user Augmented_One with the caption: "Eiffel Tower burning VFX." VFX is the process by which imagery is created or manipulated outside the context of a live-action shot in filmmaking and video production.
In response to the confusion surrounding the video, the 3D visualization studio added additional clarification in a January 24, 2024 comment saying: "To all the viewers, this is VFX (visual effects)." specifying that it was created with visual effects in its title and video description.
Moreover, The Eiffel Tower’s official website has not released any recent news about a fire on or within the tower. Neither has the Eiffel Tower’s X account,Facebook account or Instagram account.
The latest update on the Eiffel Tower's official X page was shared on January 23, 2024, promoting the experience, and giving tips to tourists and encouraging people to visit the tower.
Finally, The Paris Fire Brigade has not posted any official statement about a recent Eiffel Tower fire on its website or X account.
