Misbar investigated the circulating image and found the claim to be misleading. 

Misbar's team found that the image dates back to 2020 and was taken in Armenia, during the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.

According to a France24 article, Armenia has made allegations against Azerbaijan for utilizing incendiary weapons, specifically white phosphorus, during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Azerbaijan, on the other hand, has denied these accusations. 

However, journalists who interviewed the injured and hospital personnel in Yerevan have gathered compelling evidence suggesting that this could indeed be true. While phosphorus is not prohibited by international law, its usage is heavily regulated under an international agreement that neither Armenia nor Azerbaijan has ratified.

Israeli Forces Used White Phosphorus in Lebanon and Gaza

Human Rights Watch has concluded, based on verified videos and witness testimonies, that Israeli forces employed white phosphorus during military operations in Lebanon and Gaza on October 10 and 11, 2023, respectively. The footage reveals multiple instances of artillery-launched white phosphorus airbursts over the Gaza City port and two rural sites along the Israel-Lebanon border.

White phosphorus, which can serve as both a smokescreen and a weapon, poses a significant risk to civilians due to the severe burns it inflicts and its long-lasting effects on survivors. The use of this substance in densely populated areas of Gaza constitutes a breach of the obligation outlined in international humanitarian law, which mandates that parties involved in the conflict must take all feasible precautions to prevent harm to civilians and loss of life. This incident also underscores the necessity for a thorough reassessment of the status and effectiveness of Protocol III of the Convention on Conventional Weapons (CCW), the sole existing international law governing incendiary weapons.

Palestinians Face Dire Conditions and Fears of Israeli Assault in Crowded Rafah

Displaced Palestinians, residing in overcrowded tents in Rafah, are living in constant dread of an anticipated Israeli ground assault on the city. With no safe havens left to seek refuge, approximately one million people find themselves crammed into a rapidly expanding tent city in southern Gaza. Others are squeezed into houses in the city, where rocket attacks have become a distressing norm.

Kareem Dahman, a displaced Palestinian in Rafah, shared with CNN the harrowing experiences of the residents. The deafening noise of drones and the sounds of bombings at night instill fear among the population. Dahman recounted a recent bombing that occurred perilously close to his current location, where he and more than a dozen family members are huddled in a single room of a friend's house. He described the conditions in Rafah as extremely challenging, highlighting the overwhelming number of people, chaotic circumstances, and soaring prices.
