Recently, various accounts on X shared a video purportedly showing the Chinese government demolishing a Muslim mosque and turning it into a public toilet.

Misbar investigated the circulating video and found it to be misleading.
Mosque Minaret Demolition: Adana Earthquake Impact
The widely circulated video, published on February 23, 2023, depicts the demolition of the minaret of Gökoğlu Mosque, which was damaged in the earthquake in Adana, Turkey. A JCB was observed pulling down the mosque, leading to the collapse of the minarets.
The district municipalities have begun working on repairing damaged minarets that pose a risk of collapsing onto surrounding buildings in the event of aftershocks or new earthquakes.
Misbar found that the same video was posted on YouTube on February 27, 2023.
Accusations Against China: Uyghur Persecution in Xinjiang
China has been accused of committing crimes against humanity and possibly genocide against the Uyghur population and other mostly-Muslim ethnic groups in the north-western region of Xinjiang, including targeting Muslim Uyghurs, banning religious practices in the region, and destroying mosques and tombs.
